I don’t know where to begin with this. I really don’t. But I had to, somewhere. Because
what I am going to write about has crippled an entire generation and yet we choose to ignore the magnitude of this problem and the devastation with which it has ravaged our society.

Porn. Yes, you heard it right. Probably you will feel a bit baffled maybe sheepish too, hearing about it in a mainstream blog. You must be thinking something like this is something that should not be talked about in public. It’s a taboo. An individual’s secret. But I say why not. Sometimes a problem isn’t that hard to tackle than we make it by choosing to ignore it. Pretending it doesn’t exist. Whereas in the reality it pretty much dominates every aspect of our society. Thousands of teens and adolescents in our country are battling it. Statistics are not available but I would guess that porn is one of the leading causes of depression in our young generation. According to researchers conducted in western countries, porn is not only harmful to your physical health, it is much more damaging for your psychological well-being too. It leads a person to a lot of negative emotions. Guilt, uselessness, lack of control, lack of self-respect, inability to maintain relations and the list goes on and on. If it is that big a problem then why isn’t it talked about in the media? Well, the answer is pretty simple. A lot of big industries profit by exploiting these natural urges. Media and entertainment industry is the forerunner.

Being attracted to the opposite gender is not a problem. It is natural. Allah has put these urges in us for a great cause. For the survival and proliferation of our species. The problem begins when we exploit these forces of attraction for petty things like monetary benefits. I am sorry to say but our entertainment industry is the biggest culprit here. We have got used to the vague notion that nudity represents entertainment. No. We aren’t meant to be animals who are driven entirely by their hunger. We are the best of Allah’s creations. Humans are supposed to have higher aims and goals in life. They are meant to explore, create and evolve. A human society is based on values. Tenants like respect, discipline, and kindness. Nudity is basically an insult to a person. It gives the impression that all we have to offer is our sexual appeal. No. Our potential is far greater than that. What makes you beautiful are the ideas that intrigue your mind. The creativity that flows into you. You are much more than just an object of pleasure.

This war is greater and tougher than any other war being fought in the world because it’s a war to protect our integrity. It’s a fight against forces that aim to reduce humans to mere objects of sexual pleasure. We have to talk about it. Do everything we can to protect our society, our future generations. Our survival as the best of Allah’s creation depends on it. To everyone who is struggling with this addiction I’d say please don’t give up. It is hard to regain the control of your life but the struggle is worth it. You aren’t failing as long as you are trying.

Give yourself a chance. You will have bad days. Times when you will feel so depressed   that you want to kill yourself. But don’t lose hope. None of us is perfect and Allah loves those who strive to make themselves a better version of themselves. No matter how low you stoop always try to get back on. Tell yourself every day that this isn’t you. No, you are a person with exciting prospects and dazzling personality. You are definitely much greater than this menace. Keep fighting that’s all Allah requires from us.

Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He
who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
(Holy Quran)
