Born in Bologna, in 1922, Pier Pasolini was an Italian poet, journalist and a novelist who had endeavored to explore and express artistic and political subversions in a manner which remained his own till the very end.

Pasolini bore different ideologies; Catholic with Marxist leanings. After the war, he was pushed to live in Friuli where he not only learned the local dialect but also had managed to rationally observe the lives of peasants against their landowners.

This period marks his receptiveness towards Marxism and also shaped his views in his initial poetry leaving an exception for his acceptance of the power of the Church. Stuart Hood registers two poems, one “on the death of Pope John and another dedicated to the ashes of Gramsci”, to substantiate the simultaneous recognition of the Church and Marxism in Pasolini’s work. Pier Pasolini affirms time and time again, through his work, that the mythological pronouncements remain a significant aspect of literature and politically charged narrations.  Despite his radical views and Marxist leanings, he acknowledges the power church possess and also the vital part which it traditionally plays in the propagation of an idea or a belief. Pasolini’s Lutheran Letters provides an interesting and an insightful view about the Italian Politics and political scenario including his dissatisfaction regarding patch up between the Communist Party and the Christian Democratic Party. Somehow, or the other, the parallels between the contemporary Pakistani politics are apparent. The “historical compromise”, between two political parties of different mandates, seems to be a news from today’s world when we see Pakistan Tehreek−e−Insaaf Patching up with Muslim League (N) after all the foul language and sordid statements which have been passed by the members and leaders for each other. Pasolini has referred to same kind of situation where the exploitation is only on the level of working class however the linguistic show is presented by the leading and front men without any real actualization or realization of the issues working class has suffered from.  Pasolini has noticed this kind of dichotomy in

Pasolini has noticed this kind of dichotomy in “Unhappy Youths” which appears quite relevant to the phenomenon youth has reflected in the “Dharna scenario”. “Guttural howls or other interjections, all of obscene nature” is symbolic of the regression Pakistani politics has gone through.  The blurring of ideas, manifestos and ideologies through the political rhetoric, primarily for the sake of disorienting the youth, and false promises has always been a part of the political scenario but this time an abundant use of foul language displaying vulgarity and obscenity has been registered. This shows the regression our national political conscience has suffered from.  Not to name, the leaders of almost all mainstream political parties have used the obscene linguistic howls, that too on different television programs and social media forums, which they would never approve of for their children or themselves. Being an educationist, the realization took me the point where I could see the effects, including intolerance and no acceptance of other’s perspective, it would have made on our society. I was reminded of Pasolini because he hints at the same regressive attitude which has been displayed by the political leaders recently highlighting the “primitive crudeness” with no deep political conscience. The quick solutions spiced with obscene garrulity and verbosity, and iced with religious liberalism would take us, again, to the road which leads to nowhere. This is for people to understand and realize the falsity of the ideological jargon they are not only listening to but also endorsing.
